Do you have certain foods that are just plain disgusting to you? I know that I have plenty. I guess overall I wouldn’t consider myself to be a picky eater. When I was growing up, my mom was a manager at McDonald’s. I had 3 brothers and we unfortunately had dinner several nights a week inside the golden arches. I know, probably not the healthiest place to eat but the price was right. :)

To this day, there are several foods that literally make me gag. First of all, butter. I don’t know what it is about butter but I get sick to my stomach every time I think of butter….ah man there it goes again. :) I guess it all started when I was six or seven and my mom put butter on my toast just like she had for countless days before. Something must have happened that day because I got very sick and haven’t been able to eat butter since. Not on potatoes, toast, popcorn, anything. Butter to me is just plain nasty!

I also have a difficult time with spicy foods. Growing up in the midwest, I am correctly personified as a meat and potatoes kind of guy. I could have meat and potatoes every day for the rest of my life and be completely content with that. I actually like bland food. Spicey food, although very tasty at times, is something that I have a difficult time with. My lips start to burn, I break out in sweats, my stomach goes crazy. When someone asks me how well I can handle spicy foods, I say, “Let me put it this way, to me, Fruity Pebbles are spicy.”

As I have grown up, my appetite has definitely expanded. Vegetables are now a daily part of my life. I absolutely love fruit and have actually started eating salad believe it or not. There will, however, still be several restaurants that I will never be able to eat at again because of a “bad experience” that I may have had there. Do you have any restaurants like that? One bad meal that you had completely turned that place off for you and you will never eat there again. I absolutely understand your plight.

Did you know that we serve a Holy God? Sin is absolutely disgusting to Him. He is completely blameless. I think sometimes we as Christans forget that. Don’t get me wrong, I am so grateful for the grace of God without which I would be completely and totally lost. Jesus loves us just the way we are and no matter how much we may disappoint Him, His love remains constant. However, if we have been saved by the grace of God, our attitude towards sin in our own personal lives should be the same as that of our savior. He loves you so much….its the sin He doesn’t like. May we feel the same way about the sin in our lives as we do about that food item that just completely makes us gag.

With Expectancy!
