Gone Fishing

Well I did something last week that I haven’t done in quite a while…..you guessed it, I went fishing. I few of the guys from our church who fish religously convinced me to go with them. My good friend Jason Maupin was in town so the two of us joined the 2 fishing pro’s and we attacked the Calloosahatche river. I don’t know if you can imagine this or not but before we could fish, I had to get a fishing liscense. I went to Walmart and paid $17.50 for the right to salt water fish for the next year. I even bought a pair of $11.00 Sunglasses to help me look the part. I had my shors on, my ventilator shirt and my cool $10.00. I was ready to go.

When we got into the boat, my flip flop fell into the water…..awesome. I got that squared away and in the boat we went trolling the one of Cape Coral’s canals. I even got to drive the boat for a while! Once we got to our spot, the game was on. First of all, I have absolutely no clue how to do any of the following:

1. Tie a hook to the fishing line
2. Bait the hook
3. Take the fish off of the hook once I catch it

Needless to say, I needed a lot of help getting started. Once the hook was tied and the bait was set, I began my journey to catch a fish. I didn’t care what kind of fish I caught….I was not going to go away empty handed. Not long after we began, everyone started catching fish. After everyone but me caught a fish, I was beginning to get a bit nervous. How embarassing. To be the only guy not to have caught a fish. Then, all of a sudden, bang. A fish hit my line. The best part was that I was talking to my wife when the fish was caught. I felt like such a man. I reeled the fish in and it was by far the smallest catfish on the face of the planet. I didn’t care. A fish was a fish. By the end of the day, our group caught about 30 fish every one of which was a catfish. The guys we went with were a bit disspointed. I however, was thrilled. I attempted something I don’t normally do and was successful. Now I didn’t bait my hook or tie my line or take the fish off the hook but that is besides the point.

What are some ways that you can challenge yourself today? Don’t just get caught in the same rut each and every day. We have each been given 1 life to live. Live it to the fullest. Be all that God has created you to be. Go fishing!!!!

With Expectancy!
