The little things

One of the best pieces of advice that I have ever been given was to count my blessings.  I was told to get out a piece of paper and literally write down everything I could possibly think of that I was thankful for.  It took quite a while and I am sure that there were some things I couldn’t even think of.  We are now on the verge of Thanksgiving.  The day where each of us sit back and ponder at some point during the day those things that we are the most thankful for.  If your family is anything like mine, there usually is a point before dinner that everyone takes turns listing the things they are thankful for.  Usually, my thoughts turn to spiritual things such as, “I would be really thankful if this telling everyone what your thankful time would be over soon because I am hungry!”

Obviously, I am thankful for my relationship with God.  He loved me in spite of my faults and for that I will be eternally grateful.  I am grateful for a beautiful loving wife and for an wild, unpredictable daughter who makes me laugh every day.  I’m grateful for the best family in the world and the opportunity to work with the most gracious church in the world.  I’m thankful for the best friends a guy could ask for.  Those are obvious things.  I thought I would shake things up a little this Thanksgiving and let you know some of the “little things” that I am thankful for.

  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Watching football on Sunday’s
  • the 4th of July
  • laughing until it hurts

  • getting a card in the mail
  • going bike riding
  • painting (not artistic painting……..house painting)
  • to do lists
  • 3 day weekends

One of my favorite quotes says this: “The seeds of bitterness can never take root in a grateful heart.”  What are you thankful for today?  Maybe you need to take a few minutes to “count your blessings.”  It may help you get through some of the difficult days.  I hope my list inspired you to think of some of the little things in life you may be thankful for.  Happy Thanksgiving!

With Expectancy!
